Cleaning Up the Canning Coordinator

Four year contract position
Full time

SERCUL is seeking a highly motivated person with considerable experience in Natural Resource Management and project management.

The SERCUL Cleaning Up the Canning Coordinator will coordinate the planning, development, implementation and monitoring of sub-projects (to varying degrees) that are part of the Cleaning Up the Canning Project. They will also provide executive support for the River Funding Steering Committee. The operational area is within the Canning, Southern and Wungong River Catchments.

The position requires well developed Natural Resource Management skills, high level project management skills, high level stakeholder collaboration and relationship building skills, and have demonstrated analytical and problem solving skills.

Pay Level:
The position attracts a salary package including salary in the range of $87,700 – $105,200 per annum, plus superannuation and access to a vehicle.

Environmental Field Technicians

SERCUL are seeking experienced Full Time, Part Time and Casual Environmental Field Technicians who are passionate about the conservation of the diverse bushlands, wetlands and waterways of the greater Perth region to join our Environmental Services Team in the on-ground delivery of environmental restoration projects.

Our clients include local governments, state government agencies and the private sector. We also have a large grants program where we design and implement revegetation projects.

The main duties of these roles will include:

  • Chemical control of environmental weeds in bushland and revegetation areas
  • Manual removal of environmental weeds in bushland and revegetation areas
  • Planting native seedlings in revegetation areas
  • Maintenance of revegetation areas
  • Installation of erosion control measures such as jute matting, coir mesh and coir logs.

Typical work hours are 6.30am to 2.30pm, Monday to Friday. Most work is within the Perth metropolitan area, with our depot based in Beckenham. There may be an opportunity to work on large scale wheatbelt revegetation projects in June and July.

Essential Selection Criteria:

  • Strong plant identification skills including differentiating between native and weed species in bushland.
  • WA Health Department Pest Management Technician Licence (or the completion of the relevant units of competency to obtain licence). The relevant units are:
  1. AHCCHM307 Prepare and apply chemicals to control pest, weeds and diseases.
  2. AHCCHM304 Transport and store chemicals.
  3. AHCPMG301 Control weeds.
  • White Card
  • First Aid
  • Current driver’s licence.
  • Good level of physical fitness due to the physically demanding nature of the work.

Desirable Selection Criteria:

  • Demonstrated weed control experience using both herbicide and manual methods of weed control.
  • Experience in using machinery including 4wd vehicles, spray rigs, chainsaws, hedge trimmers and brush cutters.
  • Qualifications in or currently studying Conservation and Land Management (min Cert III), Conservation Biology, Environmental Science, Horticulture or related fields at TAFE or university AND/OR equivalent employment experience.

Pay levels:
These are full time or part time positions and pay rates are between $56,160 to $70,980pa pro rata to be negotiated depending on the skill and experience level of successful applicants.

Revegetation Planting Staff

SERCUL are seeking Revegetation Planting Staff to join us on an exciting revegetation project this planting season.

This project will be split over two locations in the Wheatbelt and will install 700,000 plants in June and July 2024.

Meals and accommodation are provided.

Essential Selection Criteria:

  • High level of physical fitness due to the physically demanding nature of the work.
  • Ability to work long hours in outdoor conditions
  • White Card

Desirable Selection Criteria:

  • Current driver’s licence.
  • Experience with large scale revegetation/forestry projects
  • Experience using Pottiputkis
  • Off road four wheel driving experience

Work hours are 6:30am to 5:30pm on a 10 days on 4 days off drive in/out roster. There will be 4 swings from the 10/6/24 to 24/7/24.

Each swing will begin and end at our depot in Beckenham with transport to site in company provided vehicles.

Pay levels:
These are fixed term contracts for the planting period. Pay rates are based on the Gardening  and Landscaping Services Award. This will equate to a pay rate of $408.58 per 11 hour day plus meals, accommodation and transport provided.
